What we do

“Young people, do not be afraid of Christ! He takes nothing away, and he gives you everything. When we give ourselves to him we receive a hundredfold in return. Yes, open, open wide the doors to Christ – and you will find true life.”
Pope Benedict XVI

Southwark Catholic Youth Service (SCYS) is an agency of the Archdiocese of Southwark. We offer consultation, training, support, formation, advice, residential retreats and events for young people and adults working with them.

The work of SCYS is underpinned by the principles of the Gospel whilst focusing on the mission of the Church to bring all people together in encounter with Christ. The work at St. Vincent’s Centre and in parishes, schools and colleges offers an experience of community and an encounter with people of faith, through personal contact and with an holistic approach. We invite young people to critically reflect on their own experience and to allow the wisdom of Scriptures and Tradition to inform and transform their lives.

St. Vincent’s is the residential youth centre for the Archdiocese of Southwark and is home to Southwark Catholic Youth Service.

Click here for more information about retreats at St. Vincent’s.

Encounter with Christ outlines the mission and rationale for the work of SCYS. The document, based on John 10: 10, gives a theological and ecclesiological framework for our ministry both within the Diocese and at St. Vincent’s Centre. The foreword is written by Archbishop Kevin.
